LIO GUARD are stainless steel transport containers with PyroBubbles for damaged or defective lithium-ion batteries in critical condition.
VLICOVER selected the German manufacturer “Genius Group,” an expert in engineering and innovative solutions for active and passive fire protection, as well as the PyroBubbles® extinguishing agent.
Price: between 6 790,00 € and 58 000,00 € HT (depending on model)
The increasing energy density of lithium-ion batteries and their unavoidable use in all industrial sectors inevitably lead to significantly higher potential risks, such as damage during transport, storage, and production disruptions.
Lio Guard lockable stainless steel containers are ideal solutions for transporting or storing intact lithium batteries and are particularly suitable for severely damaged cells, which represent a significant source of danger. All lithium-ion cells or batteries and lithium metal cells or batteries that have been damaged or identified as defective for safety reasons may be subject to rapid degradation, flame formation, dangerous heat generation, or the hazardous emission of toxic, corrosive, or flammable gases or vapors. Defective cells must be transported in accordance with packing instructions P911 or LP 906 with packing group I.
The containers are equipped with a pressure relief valve and are filled with the fire protection agent PyroBubbles® (consisting mainly of silicon dioxide with an average particle size of 0.5 to 5 mm). In the event of a fire, the granules melt and form a closed, thermally insulating layer around the battery, thus eliminating oxygen. Combustion gases are reduced thanks to the pores in the beads. The high specific heat capacity absorbs thermal energy, and the temperature is reduced due to the cooling effect. In addition, the combustible material is protected by the low thermal conductivity. PyroBubbles® are also suitable for extinguishing metal fires. Even in the event of thermal runaway, the surrounding environment is reliably protected.
Available in several sizes, Génius Lio Guard containers have become one of the safest transport and storage options on the market.
Compliant with ADR special regulations SV376, SV377 & SV310 and the following packing instructions:
P908: This instruction applies to damaged or defective lithium-ion or lithium metal cells and batteries of UN Nos. 3090, 3091, 3480 and 3481, including when contained in equipment.
P909: This instruction applies to UN Nos. 3090, 3091, 3480 and 3481 transported for disposal or recycling, whether or not mixed with non-lithium cells or batteries. P910: This instruction applies to production series consisting of not more than 100 cells and batteries of UN Nos. 3090, 3091, 3480 and 3481 and to pre-production prototypes of cells and batteries of these UN Nos. when these prototypes are transported for testing.
P911: This instruction applies to damaged or defective cells and batteries of UN Nos. 3090, 3091, 3480 and 3481 which are liable to disassemble rapidly, react dangerously, produce a flame or dangerous evolution of heat or a dangerous emission of toxic, corrosive substances or flammable gases or vapours under normal conditions of transport.
