In the event of a lithium-ion battery fire, the battery burns in a controlled manner under the fire blanket without endangering nearby objects, with significantly reduced ambient temperature and smoke development.
On October 25, 2024, a major advance in fire safety was achieved: the first standard, DIN SPEC 91489:2024-11, now establishes clear requirements for fire insulation and containment blankets for electric vehicles. VLICOVER D LINE blankets are among the first to meet these stringent criteria, guaranteeing an effective solution in the event of a lithium-ion battery fire.
This standard’s criteria:
– High thermal resistance to control extreme temperatures.
– Mechanical stability guaranteeing cut resistance and protection.
– Chemical resistance to prevent the spread of toxic substances.
– Comprehensive manufacturer information to ensure safe use.
– Post-fire handling to ensure optimal safety.
This standard marks a key step in improving the safety of electric vehicles and strengthening confidence in fire protection equipment. VLICOVER D LINE fire blankets, certified according to DIN SPEC 91489, offer optimal protection and are a benchmark solution in terms of safety.
Certified for use up to 1,300°C at peak temperatures, D LINE fire blankets act as a shield against fire. They help control the fire and slow its spread, with a significant and immediate reduction in smoke and temperature. Toxic fumes remain under the blanket.

Our solution
Immediate control of lithium-ion battery fires using VLICOVER blankets
This is the maximum time required, after installation of the VLICOVER fire blanket, for a significant reduction in smoke.
This is the quantity of water and extinguishing agents required to extinguish the fire following the installation of the cover (so-called conventional fires)
This is the time required to control the temperature and overcome thermal runaway.
